When two industrial giants join forces, streamlining business processes is a truly monumental task. The best example was the merger of Bayer AG with the US company Monsanto. Reporting and analysis specialists<\/a> Xient GmbH supported the huge wedding on various levels and ensured that everything ran smoothly.<\/p>\r\n

The systems and processes of two industry giants, some of them developed over decades, had to be harmonized and modernized during the merger. We were faced with the challenge of migrating the systems of seed specialist Monsanto to those of Bayer. After the migration, the data state did not only have to be uniform. A modern and high-performance target architecture was also part of the task. Xient architects<\/a> employed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

SAP HANA data lake replaces legacy SAP queries<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Monsanto relied on outdated SAP queries for around 200 relevant Knowledge Sets. After a detailed analysis of the data situation and consultation with decision makers at Bayer and Monsanto, we decided on an SAP HANA Data Lake database as the target architecture. This is hosted on Amazon Web Services Cloud. Our extensive expertise in lake architectures, as well as our extensive experience in working with large companies, especially in the pharmaceutical and logistics sectors, were the driving forces behind the successful implementation of the data merger between global companies.<\/p>\r\n

Our developers performed a systematic analysis of Monsanto's historically growing and therefore complex SAP queries. This also included deconstructing the sometimes opaque query logics through reverse engineering and categorizing the results by importance and complexity. Xient developers then transformed the legacy Monsanto Infosets into SAP HANA-based Compute Views.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Smooth process despite complex challenges<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The integration of Monsanto data into the Bayer environment was of course a very interesting task, and not only because of the challenging data starting point. Our range of services also included the complete support of the merger. This included extensive testing and subsequent live activation of the SAP solutions developed, as well as training and support for employees. With global companies like Bayer and Monsanto, there are also challenging logistics involved. With employees in Europe, the US and India involved, all sub-processes had to be coordinated across three time zones.<\/p>\r\n

Despite all the perceived challenges, our Xient team managed to complete the data migration between Monsanto and Bayer quickly and with maximum efficiency. All data reconciliations between the old and new systems worked successfully and without errors according to our tests.<\/p>\r\n

The performance gains of the new architecture should not be underestimated: While queries based on legacy Monsanto Infosets sometimes have response times of up to 15 minutes, the modern SAP HANA in-memory database delivers results practically as real-time computational views. The chosen in-memory hosting in the AWS cloud provides a tremendous boost in performance and therefore productivity - a gain on every level that can be expected from an enterprise group of this size.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
